Ministry of Petroleum &
Natural Gas, Government of India: The Ministry of Petroleum
& Natural Gas deals with exploration and production of oil and
natural gas (including import of Liquefied Natural Gas), refining,
distribution & marketing, import, export and conservation of
petroleum products. The allocated work includes exploration for
petroleum resources including natural gas and Coal Bed Methane and
their production, refining, supply, distribution, marketing and
pricing. The institutional infrastructure of the Ministry includes
a Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board, Oil Industry Development
Board, Petroleum Conservation Research Association, Oil Industry
Safety Directorate, Centre for High Technology
and Directorate General of Hydrocarbons.
The companies under the administrative control of
the Ministry include Fortune-500 companies such as Oil and Natural
Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL),
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum
Corporation Limited (BPCL) and other major companies such as Gas
Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Oil India Limited (OIL) and Engineers
India Limited (EIL).
To achieve the goal of Energy Security, there is
a massive programme of exploration, not only in India through the
New Exploration Licensing Policy, but also abroad through various
public sector companies, in particular, ONGC-Videsh Limited and
the consortium of Oil India Limited-Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
The specific interests being pursued abroad are equity participation
in developed oil and gas fields, exploration and production contracts
in new fields, both oil and natural gas, participation in mid-stream
and down-stream projects and participation in transnational oil
and gas pipeline projects.
UNCTAD:
Established in 1964, UNCTAD promotes integration of developing countries
into the world economy. UNCTAD has progressively evolved into an
knowledge-based institution whose work aims to help shape current
policy debates and thinking on development, with a particular focus
on ensuring that domestic policies and international action are
mutually supportive in bringing about sustainable development.
UNCTAD is actively involved in the field of Energy Sector through
its various initiatives like research and analysis, intergovernmental
work and capacity building activities focus on addressing the developing
countries' pressing needs, including those of Africa and India.
FICCI : The Federation of Indian Chambers
of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) set up in 1927 has evolved to
become a "partner in progress" with the government and
the industry. The Chamber has become the rallying point for free
enterprises in India, to shore up competitiveness and enhance their
global reach. With a nationwide membership of over 1500 corporates
and over 500 chambers of commerce and business associations FICCI
espouses the shared vision of Indian businesses and speaks directly
and indirectly for 2,50,000 businesses
FICCI has been contributing to the development of Hydrocarbon sector
in India through its research, policy advocacy and several national
and international activities like conferences and exhibitions on
the sector from time to time. FICCI Africa Desk has been actively
pursuing the south-south cooperation through its sectoral, bilateral
and multilateral initiatives across Africa.
